Samsung’s Now Bar in One UI 8 will support live notifications for all apps

One UI 8

Samsung launched One UI 7 this year, bringing Live Notifications, a feature similar to Apple’s Live Activities. It highlights ongoing tasks on the lock screen and notification panel, but only a few apps, mostly Samsung’s own, could use it. That’s set to change with the One UI 8 update. Built on Android 16, One UI 8 taps into a new feature called “Live Updates.”

This works like Live Notifications but allows any third-party app to join in. The latest beta version gives us a glimpse of how this will work.During Google I/O, Google announced that Samsung’s Now Bar will blend Live Updates with Live Notifications.

They even showed a brief animation of an Uber Eats notification expanding from the Now Bar.In One UI 8 Beta 3, a new developer setting called “Live notifications for all apps” was found by my colleague, Zachary Kew-Denniss.

When turned on, compatible apps’ Live Updates appeared in the status bar and Now Bar, just like Live Notifications. Since no public apps support Live Updates yet, Google’s test app was used to try it out.

As this is a beta, it’s no shock that Live Updates is tucked behind a developer option. But it would be odd if this stays true for the final One UI 8 release. Google has already said Samsung will fully support Live Updates, so users shouldn’t need to tweak settings to make it work.

Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, set to launch on July 9, 2025, brings a fresh look with a cover screen that feels more practical and appealing than those of rival foldable phones. After years of refining its foldable designs, Samsung has made the Z Fold 7’s cover screen wider and slimmer, giving it a sleek, traditional smartphone vibe when folded.

This makes it easier to use for quick tasks like texting or checking notifications without unfolding the device. The wider cover screen, now 6.5 inches compared to the 6.3 inches on the Z Fold 6, offers a more comfortable experience. Leaked images show a design that reduces the hinge’s bulk, making the phone feel less like a foldable and more like a standard device.

The inner screen also grows to 8.2 inches, providing more space for multitasking or watching videos. Samsung’s focus on a thinner, lighter build, paired with a titanium hinge, ensures the phone feels sturdy yet portable. Compared to competitors like Oppo, Vivo, and Huawei, the Z Fold 7’s cover screen stands out for its balance of size and usability.

While rivals have made strides in foldable tech, Samsung’s design tweaks make the Z Fold 7 a top choice for those wanting a foldable that feels familiar yet advanced. With One UI 8 and Android 16, plus a powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, this phone is ready to impress.
