One UI 8 update changes Tablets, upsetting classic DeX fans

Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8 update, based on Android 16, brings big changes to Galaxy tablets, but not all users are happy. A leaked internal beta for the Galaxy Tab S9+ shows that Samsung is removing the Classic DeX mode from tablet screens.
Instead, users will have to use the new DeX interface, which has sparked frustration among fans of the older version. Classic DeX gave tablets a desktop-like experience, perfect for multitasking and productivity. The new DeX, introduced with One UI 6.0, blends the standard tablet interface with DeX features to better suit touchscreens.
While Samsung kept Classic DeX as an option before, One UI 8 seems to drop it entirely, forcing users to adapt to the new setup. Many who loved the traditional DeX for its computer-like feel are disappointed, as the new version may not work as well for their needs.
Samsung worked with Google to build Android 16’s Desktop Mode, which shapes the new DeX. This could mean more features in the future, but for now, the loss of Classic DeX is a sore point. The One UI 8 beta is still in testing, so there’s a slim chance Samsung might bring back Classic DeX based on user feedback. For now, tablet users must prepare for a new way to work.

Samsung’s new devices: release date and first look leaked

Samsung is gearing up for its big Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York, where it will show off new foldable phones and smartwatches. A recent leak has given us a sneak peek at the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Flip 7 FE, Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic, and Watch Ultra 2025.
These images reveal what to expect before the official launch. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is said to have a slim design with a bigger 8-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch cover display. It may feature a 200MP main camera and a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip for top performance.
The Z Flip 7 could come with a larger 4.1-inch cover screen, similar to Motorola’s Razr Ultra, and might use an Exynos 2500 chip. A budget-friendly Z Flip 7 FE is also expected, possibly with a simpler design and older specs. The Galaxy Watch 8 series, including the Classic and Ultra 2025, will likely have a unique “squircle” shape and better health features.
The Ultra might offer more memory and new colors, while the Classic keeps its rotating bezel for easy navigation. These devices will run on One UI 8, based on Android 16, with improved AI features. You can reserve them now on Samsung’s website for a $50 credit and up to $1,150 in trade-in savings. Stay tuned for more details at the July 9 event.

Samsung to start One UI 8 Watch beta for Galaxy Watch 6 Classic soon

Samsung is getting ready to roll out the One UI 8 Watch Beta for the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. This update, built on Wear OS 6, will bring new features to enhance the smartwatch experience. A recent post on X by @Alfaturk16 spotted a test build, hinting that the beta program might launch soon in the US and South Korea.
The One UI 8 Watch Beta will let Galaxy Watch 6 Classic users try out new tools like better health tracking, smoother animations, and a fresher design. Features such as Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, and Running Coach are expected, though some may be limited to newer models.
The beta is likely to start with the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, with the Watch 6 series joining shortly after. To join, users can sign up through the Samsung Members app once the program goes live. Samsung often limits beta programs to specific countries at first, so it’s unclear if other regions will be included later.
The stable version of One UI 8 Watch will debut with the Galaxy Watch 8 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, 2025, in New York. This update shows Samsung’s focus on improving its smartwatches with better performance and new health features. Stay tuned for more details as the beta nears!

New trade deal helps Samsung keep phone prices steady

A recent trade agreement between the United States and Vietnam has brought good news for Samsung’s mobile phone business. The company makes about 60% of its 220 million phones each year in Vietnam, with most shipped to the U.S., where Samsung holds a 20% share of the smartphone market.
Earlier, a steep 46% tariff proposed by President Donald Trump threatened to raise costs, which could have forced Samsung to increase phone prices or lose ground to competitors like Apple. Thankfully, the new deal cuts the tariff to 20%, offering temporary relief.
This means Samsung can likely keep Galaxy phone prices stable for now, avoiding major price hikes that would hit U.S. customers. “This is a big win for both countries,” Trump shared on Truth Social after talks with Vietnam’s leader, To Lam.
Industry experts agree, with one saying, “The 20% tariff is much better than expected.”However, challenges remain. The U.S. also set a 40% tariff on goods shipped through Vietnam from other countries, which could affect Samsung’s supply chain.
To prepare, Samsung shipped its Galaxy S25 series to the U.S. early and may shift production of future phones, like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, to countries with lower tariffs, such as India. While this deal softens the blow, potential future tariffs on specific items like smartphones or chips could still pose risks for Samsung and its customers.
